Barking mad but totally agree, the world would be a dull place with these sorts of characters.

Very, very impressive. Note that this is not stunt like those who have "swum" across of "jetskied" across accompanied by a comfortable chase boat where they sleep and have meals half the time. He was really autonomous and really alone out there. Very impressive indeed.

I guess since paddling is different yjan rowing, they are doing something new. At least all these new record attempts have satellite help these days.
Good luck to them

Phenomenal! Makes me question just how small of a boat one can cruise in!

Interesting story. When you are willing to do whatever it takes, you can do lots of unusual things. It doesn't sound like a lot of fun. A good accomplishment, right up there with things like hopping across the Kalahari Desert on only one leg.
The human spirit is amazing.
The apparent life of ease while living on land often is not so easy when it crushes the human spirit. On the other hand, the arduous and disciplined life offshore is a great triumph of the human spirit over mediocrity and boredum.
It's not clear to other people why we do many things, but it usually is clear to us. It may not be important to the world that we follow our dreams, but to us it is supremely important.

I do not think it is anything that special. After all there have been dozens if not hundreds who have already done this. Remember that old Swede who rowed oceans before WW2?
But I believe it is a GREAT adventure and I hope one day I will be able to row across an ocean too. (Anybody willing to sponsor the rowing boat PLS apply by return mail ;-))). They are worth 20k upwards.
On the second thought, drifting in something like a big, habitable ocean bouy could be twice as fun.

This is amazing. Not sure whether I think I'm inspired or in awe of the insanity of it.
