*** Note that the former Malaysian Minister of Defence, Hishamuddin Hussein, whose rebuttal of Willie L's argument is the basis of this second story, is a first cousin of the former Prime Minister of Malaysia, Najib Razak, who was called 'a nasty man' and 'alleged to be monumentally corrupt' in Willie Langewiesche's story in The Atlantic. Najib is currently facing several court cases on his alleged corruption.

As the immortal Mandy Rice-Davies might say (were she to read Hishamuddin's statement): "Hishamuddin would say that, wouldn't he?"

Third significant response in the Malaysian media to Willie Langewiesche's story, this time from Mohd. Khalil Kader Mohd., an officer of the Malaysian Royal Police (PDRM) and member of the PDRM investigating team:

An extract from the above link:

The Malay Mail yesterday also reported Hishammuddin as saying: “Not sure what his motives are, but the authorities can easily prove him wrong.”

And yet they haven't - so is it they can't be bothered or just can't...
You have to chuckle!

Presumably the news report was for the domestic market.

After the change in government following elections a year back, the current authorities in Malaysia have no particular interest in doing Hishammudin's bidding, right?

I read PDRM officer Khalil, although not an elected official, doing a fair job of representing the Malaysian authorities.

To repeat the relevant quote from Khalil:

Quote:
“How can he (Langewiesche) touch on or discuss the investigative process when he does not know anything about it?

“I believe he does not have an iota of evidence, but has accused the police of hiding facts.

“The reasoning Langewiesche puts forth in the article is shallow, based entirely on conjecture and pure assumptions. There’s nothing constructive in the article,” Khalil told New Straits Times today.

He reiterated that the investigations, which engaged foreign experts, were transparent.

“We worked with the French, and we shared whatever we had with the Australians, and vice-versa.

“The investigation was transparent and we have laid out all findings during the process.

“Every investigation has its own formula and conclusion, and for this case, we can only arrive at a conclusion when we find the MH370 aircraft. So we must find it,” said Khalil, who is now Johor police chief.
You'll of course have noted that Willie L did not canvass all theories about MH370. Willie just focused on the "Zaharie as evil mastermind" theory and criticising the immediate Malaysian govt response.

The incompetence of the immediate Malaysian govt response is undeniable.

The "Zaharie as evil mastermind" theory does not fit what Saucy Sailoress saw and reported. At least two of the other theories, one or both of which are uncomfortable for some people not a million miles from Willie L, do fit with what Saucy Sailoress saw.

Re: MH370 back in the news

Willie L called me a vagabond. And Willie L wasn't far from the truth... I think his only incorrect assumption was that I immediately assumed it was a kamikaze plane. Nope, I immediately assumed it was a research vessel. It was after I'd heard the news that I feared it was a kamikaze plane.

(oh, and nobody ever paid me for a tarot reading yet....)

So do aircraft which handshake with Inmarsat now provide a position report.
