Great Works of Art!

I love, love, love this painting! It has been on my desktop since I found it a couple years back while researching Havana Harbor. It's a painting of a guy getting eaten by a shark in Havana Harbor called "Watson and the Shark" by John Singleton Copley.

Watson and the Shark - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Apparently Copley never visited the location but his painting includes some details like the fort at the entrance to the harbor. The ships in the background are interesting, I like how the boat hook hasn't really changed much in terms of design over the years.

Of course the painting itself depicts an occasion of great drama. I can't help but feel the pain of Watson's shipmates as they struggle to aid him. I also can't hate on the shark for being a shark. Breaks my heart about the fin soup business.
