Ahh yes... my first bucket.
Well it was many years ago. About 35 years actually. My first boat had no head so the bucket... well I think that you get the picture.
There was going to be a big pot luck on the dock and my girlfriend decided that she would surprise me and make a big salad to share. Unfortunately the boat being pretty small and not very well equipped in the galley didn't have anything big enough for making a very large salad.
Said girlfriend saw the bucket and thought, this is just perfect.
When I got back to the boat and saw this wonderful bucket of salad had to come clean as it was and tell my little sweetie that the salad had to go to the dumpster.

So true. I've been looking for that special bucket. One that would go hand in hand with Ol' Red. Trying to find one that Ol' Red will, hum... bond with is hard.

On the topic of buckets...
I have found that the very best buckets are the ones that are made for horse feed.
You can buy them at feed and farm supply stores for about $6. They are practically indestructible. They are made of super thick plastic and have galvanized steel handles.
These things are so strong that you can drag them from a line behind the boat for a week and they won't come apart.

I think my next bucket should come with a nice set of tin cups........

A good ole fashion bucket........ One that's good in all sorts of situations. Whether its making salad, bailing the bilge, or going aloft.

Gosh! Mine wouldn't survive being dragged behind the boat at all! My bucket should count itself extremely lucky that the are no 'feed and farm' stores in the Med LOL .

We all know there are male and female fittings. And so it goes with buckets. If a bucket rolls around and fits with other buckets of the same shape and size, then there may be a silver lining here. Perhaps multiple buckets. Lord knows the to do list is long.............

I remember my first bucket. With regret I recall how poorly I treated it. It was a generic 5 gallon bucket and gave me good service until my irresponsible jet ski years. One day upon returning home from being a waterway menace I was tired and made the poor thing hold up the trailer tongue. I just left it holding the weight of my means of waterway transgression. Low, it was with a heavy heart I returned a week later to find its back broken. For the burden I had placed on it was too much.

Like the creed DOJ. Whilst on the subject, which is never far,obviously, from a Bucketeer's mind (those who have not lost their's anyway) we are going to the boat today and introducing it to a new bucket. Nothing special about the bucket, but it has had a housebound life so far, and it has served us well, so figured that we would give it a reward by promoting it to boat bucket.

We will not go out of course, we shall let them get used to each other. The bucket can roll around the decks playing with it's new mate and see if any of the shackles get snappy at it doing so. If all goes well and bonding takes place we shall leave them together for a few days alone, then take them out next week together and see how they team in a working environment. Hopefully it will be fine and we shall not have to seperate them and start again. It's always a bit nerve wracking leaving a loved one behind for the first time is it not?

But what if 1 bucket is metal and the other plastic? Does that result in a ziplock bag?
