Re: Do You Remember Your First Bucket?
I see other old men with their flashy, but shallow trophy buckets hanging on their arm an wonder what can be lasting,- what could they share or talk about?

Re: Do You Remember Your First Bucket?
I've seen German expats in Thailand hang on to tiny little brown buckets and wonder how something so small can accommodate them.

I do quite a bit of fishing. A coworker friend came out for a day trip with me. We had been chumming and then decided to do a troll. Anyway my boat a 25' Albemarle sport fishing boat had a stinky bloody mess on the deck. My buddy decided to chuck the bucket over for some water to do a rinse. This might have been his first time fishing, but the slack let out of the rope on that bucket and snatched his ass right over the rail. It was literally one of the funniest things I'd ever seen. We were quite a ways out and he was white by the time I was able to get him to swim platform.

Re: Do You Remember Your First Bucket?
If anyone is looking for the traditional "Perfect" canvas deck bucket as described in Hervey Garrett Smith's book "The Arts of the Sailor" published in 1953 They are being sold by a small company in Maine. I saw them on Ebay listed under "Canvas Bucket"
Pricey, but they are the "real" thing!

Re: Do You Remember Your First Bucket?
Being half wharf-rat naturally I plumb the recesses between the pilings. There I discover the cast off, the used and abused, the true flotsam of this world. Often enough I'll count among their numbers old marlinspike, boat fenders, a chum bucket, even a hard hat from a Crowley rig. I make no distinction, they offer no resistance. From the glint in my eye they know I see purpose in them. They come to me to again experience life. Theirs is to be used, which I gladly, willingly do. They are eager to fulfill my every desire.

I just found out that my bucket is less than perfect. It rattles around and does not like to stay in its stowage space. I have also found that it likes to nestle and fit itself to other buckets of the same shape and size.......

Re: Do You Remember Your First Bucket?
My 1st bucket came from Grants War Surplus store in Costa Mesa, Calif. in 1959 or 60.
It was a WWII canvas shower bucket with a big sprinkler that unscrewed on the bottom.
We had an Army camp in the gully and needed a shower bucket to wash off the dirt left over from the dirt clod fights we had! We fought some great battles in the gully!!
I still have the bucket - I can't wear it out! It has been on every boat I've ever owned and been on many hunting/fishing/camping trips! It now lives aboard the boat full time and is basically retired, as I am.
I also have two plastic buckets - a red one and a green one - so I can tell port from starboard. The red one is on the right and the green one is on the left - or is it the other way around????

Oh . So sorry to hear this. Perhaps your next bucket will be better! You need to choose your bucket carefully, rather than in the heat of the moment .
