When I was in my early 20s I was flying to Jax Fla from Colorado and had a plane change in Atlanta and got bumped up to first class. They sit me next to Ronnie Van Zandt of Lynyrd Skynyrd and the drummer who I forget because they had a few different ones. I instantly recognize Ronnie because of the hat and I had seen them in Denver some months earlier. He introduces himself and invites me to have a drink with him. We tossed down 8 little bottles of Jack Black each in that 45 minute flight. The stewies knew who they were so we had continuous service. I was flying on my own when the plane landed. Tell me you wouldn't have done the same. 6 months later he was dead. One of the best songs ever.

Ahh Woodstock. Went with a friend who borrowed a Dodge Mobil Home. We ended up driving in with about a dozen people we picked up on the drive in. Lotsa mud.

So here's some more music trivia from Bob's life. When I was 13 I was with my parents at an insurance convention in Miami. They wanted to ditch sis and I so they got us tickets to the Monkees. Guess who the warm up band was. That would be Jimi Hendrix. We were blown away and didn't know what to think. And the fans were smoking marijuana! I got my first Jimi album shortly after that. The date of that concert was July 9, 1967.

The funny thing is is that I still like both groups even though they are polar opposites. I'm bi-polar anyway so it fits. No I'm not, Yes, I am, No I'm not. Oh crap, I need my pills.

Just to add a little balance since we are talking the Vietnam era. As I get older I see how history can be changed through some romanticism. I love the old rock and roll music from that time as much as the next person. But make no mistake Country music was a dominating factor of that time as well...
