What Exactly Is A Dockbox?

So the marina I'm in gave me written permission to install a dockbox at the end of my finger pier.... "not to exceed the width of the finger, 2 feet deep and 4 feet tall" with no further amplifying design parameters.

The box I installed happens to be metal, insulated, and has a small refrigeration unit... I keep my ice blocks for my icebox in my dock box.

After THREE YEARS of continuous use, the marina has declared it "personal property" and demands it's removal

What say you?

Re: What Exactly Is A Dockbox?

If you google "dockbox" you can see hundreds of examples.

I think what you're really wanting us to tell you is that a metal fridge is a dockbox. I think a metal fridge is a fridge. Whether a fridge can also be a dockbox, or vice versa, requires a level of semantics of which I am not capable.

At the end of the day though, the dock belongs to the marina, so they get to say what you can put on it.

If they say a fridge is not a dockbox, so be it.

Its whatever the marina wants to determine it is. No more no less.

Not me actually... a resident insisted on keeping his bicycles on the finger, the marina (City owned) cracked down on everybody as a response.

I think I'll fab up a fiberglass cover and scroom!

Put your refrigerator in a dockbox.

Problem solved.

Re: What Exactly Is A Dockbox?

That's definitely an "enhanced" dockbox and if they're in crackdown mode I can see that being flagged easily. A lot of time people get notices because the real dirtbag tenant is saying "Well if that guy over in C-6 can have his thing why can't I have mine?!?!"

A clever fridge I saw was one of those normal college-dorm style ones, mounted into the cavity of a custom set of wooden steps. It was off the ground a bit so the rain didn't get it wet, and there was a little hinge plywood door with a padlock so you couldn't really tell what was doing on. The power cord was tastefully run up along with the shore power cord into the boat.

Yeah, good luck in hiding that one. Small fridge inside a box maybe, but someone got their knickers in a twist and that's it.

I keep my wifi router in my dock box. One less cord to cast off.
