Re: Web log for following trip

We have absolutely been thrilled with our choice. https://travelmap.net There are three service levels, free, about $25 a year and a higher one that is probably under $100 a year. We have stuck with the $25 per year version. Some highlights:

* No visitors need to log in or have a membership or any other barrier to entry
* If you stop the annual subscription, you can no longer add but the existing data remains.
* There is an option for you to print the entire journey yourself.
* There is an option to pay him to have it professionally printed and bound
* At the higher level, you can import GPS tracks.
* The top level option allows push notifications to subscribers

We really like the map based interface.

Feel free to take a look at ours. https://circe.travelmap.net 7,000 mi in 8 months through three countries. It opens for the 2022 trip, but the drop-down menu will take you to the 2021 trip.

Re: Web log for following trip

I set up a site for cruisers to share posts of their travels about 20 years ago known as "Cruisers In Touch", but I discontinued it after about five or six years. I found that it was too difficult to maintain as my wife and I were almost continuously underway and there was an increase in well maintained free opportunities to set up an individual internet log of your travels. It seems like there's plenty of good advice above and no need for any cost unless you want the convenience of someone else's platform or to be a member of a group sharing their adventures.

Re: Web log for following trip

FWIW, Wordpress sites do allow you to post via email, so it is possible to send the email/post when it's written and let it sit in your outbox until you hit service again.

I like ParL's idea of setting up a site using a static site generator. I use Hugo and host it on Netlify for free. Everything sized and cleaned up before you send it off into the interweb so its minimal data. Or instead of using rsync you can set it up as a site on GitHub and just push changes whenever you have signal. But ya just a bit on the techie side for most...
