Sunbrella damage & repair

Managed to burn a small hole in a sunbrella covered settee cushion today. About 1/8” diameter.

Any suggestions?

Well, you could soak the area in bacon grease, attempt to clean it with naptha and then set it alight...

You would likely be evicted from the dog house!

But obviously, a patch sewn on the cushion would physically cure the problem, but likely wouldn't pass muster, so replacing the cover entirely may be required. (I don't suppose that your luck would run to it being symmetrical enough that you could just turn it over...)

I hate it when things like that interfere with sailing!

I like tear mender for patching sunbrella Cut your patch to fit area you want covered paint sunbrella and area with hole to same size .I leave a tiny border on outer edge of both so seepage doesn’t show Sailrite has a video of this

3M makes a fabulous fabric glue. It is called 3M Super 77 Multipurpose Adhesive. As the other cruiser said, cut a small piece and spray it lightly as directed on the can. Then apply it on the INSIDE of the cushion. Have a large needle or some kind of pointy stick handy that you can sort of coax any stray fabric bits onto the glue. Good luck - I feel your pain.

@hpeer. I feel your pain.

If your good lady is willing, for 1/8" hole, I'd be really tempted to try Night Wing's suggestion. I haven't ever used the product, myself, but Sailrite has pretty good reliability as a company, and for the labor and money saving, it would be a good deal... and you could always replace the whole panel if you weren't satisfied. I would definitely give it a go if I had a bit of the original fabric on the boat, for the color match.

Or, go to a place where you can actually see the sunbrella (dye lots differ). Take the cushion cover with you. Buy enough to replace the whole panel, if you can find some that matches VERY closely: so closely one cannot really be sure they aren't the same. Replace the whole panel.

Another option is to try and match the color with spinnaker cloth repair tape, and repair from underneath.

You could also consider a "throw" to cover it, depending on where the burn is on the cushion, or a patch, or a contrasting applique. ["Oh, yeah, that was the downside of x project."]

The solution depends on how important perfection is, to both of you, vs. normal wear and tear.

Well, "perfection" is bloody hard to retain, once obtained! Try Night Wing's idea. I would. But I'm a cheapskate. Couldn't lay that on you guys.
