Phones/ SIMs for circumnavigation

Hello all!

I'm starting my circumnavigation from Croatia, through the Med, across the Atlantic to the BVIs, Caribbean, Central America then on to the South Pacific.

Does anyone have any recommendations on SIM cards for general use on land in these areas?

Three Mobile (UK company) offers a SIM plan that covers many countries on that route... but would you suggest I'm better to buy individual SIMs in different areas?

Thank you so so much.

Re: Phones/ SIMs for circumnavigation

Hi Avalon, & welcome to Cruisers Forum!

Roaming never seems to work very well. We always buy new SIMs in each country. Yes, it changes our numbers, but WhatsApp doesn't seem to mind. For a permanent number, we bought a number from Skype. Main problem with it is that it won't accept an SMS, but otherwise it's fine, & it takes a msg if we're not online.

Re: Phones/ SIMs for circumnavigation

Three is supposed to add a hefty surcharge if you use it more in Europe than in the UK. They are also supposed to disable roaming if you use it outside Europe for more than two months without going back to the UK.
Don't know if they actually do but they say they will.
