Finding a cross Pacific berth?

Sorry if this is the wrong place to post this but it's my first post and I couldn't find/think of another place to post it. I am going to live in Panama for a few months (travel in Peru as well for a couple weeks) and afterward would like to go to Asia but would like to go to a bunch of Pacific Islands and be able to say I crossed the ocean by boat. I likely have more sailing experience than the average person but I am still not that knowledgeable, nor do I have a boat. Is it common for sailors to make posts asking randoms online to cross with them? If so, is there a forum more suited for this purpose?
