+1

What is the point in beating the man up for trying to share something he likes with us?

Good on the OP for making his boat 'his'..

Re: Cockpit Grass

Ha ha! I kind of like it, actually. I don't think I'd use green, but maybe a teak color, and shorter blades. It seems it would be really easy to take out and hose off. I'd want the edges bound so it wouldn't fray. But the soft impact flooring would likely be really welcome on tired feet.

Keep us updated on how it wears over time, and how much filth it traps.

I know the boats you’re thinking of, but I don’t plan to be settled at a marina anytime soon.
They are both plastic, so they are the same!

That's like saying a sponge is the same thing as a cellophane since they're both made from cellulose. Pretty sure one of them is going to collect shmutz more than the other, no?

I'm not in the negative camp here - I've got a sad IKEA leaf over my head to make my office a little more, i dont know. But I think you'll grow out of this idea when you see what a crud collector it is.

On my boat, there's teak cockpit grating. It's quite practical: dirt falls through it and out of our way and eventually washes away along the smooth surface of the cockpit sole.

Re: Cockpit Grass

I look at it and my mind short circuits...that grass should not be there! Grass does not grow on boats! It looks surreal. As for whether it's "wrong" or "right" that's a silly point to debate. It's your boat and if you like it, right on. Screw the yacht club set.

I bet it hides dirt pretty well, and in fact keeps dirt from migrating into the cabin. Probably not a big deal to roll it up and shake/rinse it and under it.

I'm firmly in the camp of "it's not something I'd do, but I appreciate him sharing the idea." One thing, it is the first time I've seen this done. He earns points for originality.

Cheers!

Re: Cockpit Grass

I am curious if anyone has experience with real grass (sodding) of the cockpit?

I dropped some grass in the cockpit once, does that count?

I'll stick with little potted plants under the sprayhood.. Sure aint gonna hate on your approach tho! Certainly more bulletproof against overzealous agricultural inspectors..

Now you’re just being silly.

But I did stop by a supplier that sells the newer artificial grass, this stuff looks so real you have to feel it to make sure it’s not. A small patch of it would probably work wonders for those that have pets onboard.

Annnnnnd I’m in Denver M-F until November.........

More plastic to disintegrate in the UV then wash out the scuppers into the Ocean.... just what we need.

Re: Cockpit Grass

Walking down the slips this summer I saw a pretty big boat with a plastic tray enclosing a piece of sod. The owner was standing near by so I asked him about it. He said the dog uses it every day. He picks up the mess then about once a week he just tosses the sod overboard and lays down a new piece.

I guess it’s another reaso not to swim in the river.LOL
