Re: Active cruisers. Do you have a printer on board

I think it’s one of those things where you might use it very occasionally but when you do need it, it saves you a lot to time and aggravation. I do not have one and have been on the fence about getting one, primarily because of th “ink drying out” issue.

Copying is something that you can get done pretty easily most places. Printing out something from a digital file can be a bit more of an ordeal depending on where you are. I’ve found myself needing to print various forms (that I did not know in advance that I would need) and such and hoofing around a town looking for a place to get it done can eat up a morning or afternoon.

If I could buy an inkjet and know it would work the three times a year I really need it I would in a heartbeat. We can send people to the moon (40 years ago at that) but ink jets still dry out. The razor blade syndrome....

Re: Active cruisers. Do you have a printer on board

Individual needs will vary but in many years of cruising the Med I have never found the slightest need for a printer on board taking up valuable space.

If I very occasionally need something printed I have always found the marina I am in more than helpful.

Even at home I find that I print less and less. In fact, I am now scanning and chucking out paper.

Were I to even think about a printer it would be a laser. Inkjets, unless used all the time, dry out. They are also very expensive to run.

For the boat I use OneDrive to store all the manuals. So much easier to find than paper. For tasks I use OneNote. Which means that one can add the photos to the task. Then take a phone or tablet and use that to show and explain the issue or need.
