Medical billing and coding et. al.

It looks like medical billing and coding are about the best ways to make a living while cruising, I understand the expenses involved with satellite data and internet usage. I have been a sailor all my working life and I want to get training and certification, can anyone recommend a good training program to get me started? DeVry and University of Phoenix and several other online universities have self paced programs which seem reputable.

Thanks in advance!

Re: Medical billing and coding et. al.

Why are you asking international sailors about training in US medical billing and coding?

It has no connection to boating matters. We are hardly the best source for such information.

He probably posted here because this particular forum is on how to make money while sailing on your boat.

The thing about being a medical biller and coder will require you to have an association with a hospital system or a physician staffing company. Passing the coder test and getting that certification is only part of the process.

Because the title of this section includes “making a living”. This would indicate that it is fitting to me.

What part of “making a living” do you need explained to you by this dumb American?

Just explain how asking for information about US certification institutions for a totally non-boat related occupation relates to "making a living on a boat".

There's a place for everything, but is it here?

Where I am, I could run a bordello or adult film productions legally from a boat - assuming the ladies and gents (lets be inclusive) have the correct work permits and bill of health - and try to make a living. However I doubt this forum is the right place to go into the intricacies of how to acquire, select and manage the staff or what kind of regulations would apply. And this would relate a lot closer to boats than US software certifications.

Nobody called out your nationality and I think he makes a very good point. No need to take things so personally.

Re: Medical billing and coding et. al.

FWIW had a women take a secretary/receptionist job in my Real estate office while she built up her medical billing job. She'd done training on how to do the billing and set up the business. Don't remember if it was online or at a formal business college. After a year of trying to line up customers she gave up, got her realestate license and was reasonably successful. Seems only a one man office might need outside billing help as most physicians were working in group practices paired with other Dr's and hired an onsite person to do the billing. Might want to research the need for freelance billing services.

Yes, I’d look more into companies that allow remote work/wfh. Be aware that many of them have typically required a certain amount of in office work before approving people for wfh. I don’t know if the current situation has changed that.
