Re: Any early retirees turned cruisers with big careers have regrets?

I think most people have this backwards....

I had a retire now, work later plan....
You wanna be cruising in your younger years when you are still fit and able..and work in your later years, when the body is not quite as capable anymore.

You will also bring a lot of wisdom to the plate when you do do eventually find a job..

That's how I did it, and it all worked out to plan.

That's nice, but if you live near the coast where you can enjoy sailing and being on the water anyway, you will get paid a lot more in those later years.

I have been the boss so long I could never get a job as just another employee.

Everyone has their own plan though so whatever works is good.

Well, it was tough to work offshore, often 100's of miles from anywhere, etc, etc, or being in another country, which prohibits foreigners from working without a lot of paperwork, etc.
I did earn a meagre living by spearfishing and selling my catch to other yachties and also doing mechanical work, ie, fixing stuff.
Once on a while, I'd take paying customers ( ie, people I met in a bar the night before) out for a daysail)
I always seemed to have " just enuff" to get by and never gave it much thought.
Off course, I had youth on my side, which helped.

This is brilliant! I wasted my former years working, partying, chasing tail, being an all around degenerate. I’m 43 now. In my thinking, I have 20 more years of good sailing left in me.

Go small, go simple, go now!
