When I was discussing coverage the zip code only impacted the cost. The max size of the vessel was fixed, I vaguely remember 38' LOA being the max I could go to with a limited sailing resume and previously owning a 14' boat (even though ASA certs and chartering up to 50' LOA).

Its still not clear to me what home zip code really means. We haven't been in the home zip code for months, no longer have a slip there, and maybe won't at all in 2022.

Really? I selected a "home base" in SC, but was also quoted the same with "home base" in GA. I had to be out of FL for taxes for a while but am now cruising the keys.
