Re: Ten degrees down by the bow

I can tell you they're letting a lot of water out through the dams. We came out the locks below Cornwall and immediately saw 4 knots of current where normally there is 2. It's been a fast run so far as we head east down the St. Lawrence.

So you're doing it? Now? How about a new thread with PICTURES! That's a trip I've always wanted to do!

Id' say 6 inches is consistent with my observations in point breeze/oak orchard. I'm about a half mile up the creek at Wiley's but when i put in in May the water was touching to bottom of the boards of my dock. Now it's about six inches below that.

I'm pretty protected from wave and wind up here though so i am sure it's different elsewhere.

Yup. Doing it now. Anchored just west of Montreal so we can do the final two locks tomorrow. We lingered in the 1000 Islands for an extra week to say goodbye, but now we're off. Next stop, Newfoundland.

My net access is sketchy, but I'll try and do as you suggest once I get a day off. So far, it's been pretty amazing. We've managed to find anchorages every night. We're doing our best to stay out of marinas, and to explore some of the nooks as we go by.

The tall ships St Lawrence II, and the Niagara are very close to you. You can likely see them both on your AIS, or on marinetraffic.com. They are also headed out the seaway on their way to Quebec City and the east coast (Halifax, St John, NYC). They are unlikely to be under sail, but are still impressive to see.

My daughter is aboard the SL2, so I have been following their progress closely. If you get close enough, please say AHOY to Capt Chafe and his salty young crew. :-)

Yes, we watched five of them go past us last evening, including the St. Lawrence II. Lovely boats. Holy crow they look complicated to sail. Sooooo many lines!
