Re: Need help moving sailboat in pdx

tsanni,

The deal with river traveling is to move with the currents whenever possible. People from your area will already know where the eddies and back-eddies are. It would be (as you probably already have realized) a good idea to have someone experienced to go with you.

The reasoning behind the PO's choice of motor may have something to do with planning to always sail, nor not go, so that she didn't need--or believe she needed--more oomph from the motor.

It might be helpful if you find out and tell us, how much current the Columbia carries around Portland? In San Francisco, at spring tides, it can run 6 knots. At slack tide, it may be 0, but you will want to know what the max you may face will be.

Aw, don't string us along, Stu. There's not a particle of truth in that! And I think his name is Heisenberg, but I'm uncertain.

It's cold and rainy, there are gale warnings about, and my mind wanders...

Physics jokes... I laughed...

OP: Craigslist yourself a $200 outboard and move it. Make sure the OB runs first for awhile.

If he pops up to help, he'll be a foreguy. It she has already made the move, he'll be an afterguy.

Re: Need help moving sailboat in pdx

Wooohoooo! A money guy! Too cool! Apologies to Guy if he shows up here. He might be interested to know that here, in Oz, sometimes the spinnaker pole guy is referred to as a brace. Now, we all know about Brace Beamer, he used to play the Lone Ranger on Stateside radio in the late 40's and early '50's. But also it means "two", as in " a brace of wolfhounds", someting to push against, something to stabilize something else.....and so on.

Poor ol' guy, ol' man, brace yourself for more!
