Sunsets or Best Pictures
I was thinking that it would be a good idea to start a topic for people to post pictures of there favorite sunsets or best anchorage so that all of us that haven't started cruising yet could have some more motivation to get out there and do it.
We personally are one year into a major refit of are power cruiser so that we can sell it and get are dream sail boat. I know that we could use some pictures to get us motivated.
I look forward to seeing some amazing shots

Re: Sunsets or best pictures
Always nice to have a good photo thread going. We've also got quite a few nice photos on the topics you mentioned in these two galleries in the Photos section.
Sunsets and Sunrises
Cruising Destinations
Sunset at the Bat Cave Moorings, Soufriere, St Lucia
All alone in Oil Nut Bay, Virgin Gorda, BVI

Re: Sunsets or best pictures
Well, OK. I took this with an iPhone sometime last summer (2011) somewhere on Lake Ontario. Can't remember where or when.
Got an honorable mention in the club photo contest, through, and earned me a box of brandy-filled chocolates. Yum.
Dunno how to get it to display vertically; it's vertical on my comp, but not here. No doubt some arcane technical procedure needed. Tilt head to port?
Connemara.

Re: Sunsets or best pictures
Tell us where they are, Erik. Or, are you trying to keep these beautiful spots a secret?

Re: Sunsets or best pictures
Sorry, i tried to get it in the post itself but I did not manage (I'm not that handy with computers)
Top left: Grey river, southern Newfoundland last summer, our boat is the tiny dot in the centre of the picture.
Top right: Spitsbergen, the mountains in the picture are the three crowns justnorth of Ny-Alesund (three mountains with practically the same shape, only 2 visible)
Lower one: Lofoten islands, Northern Norway.

Thanks Erik!!! For feeding the current obsession!
Saw a pic of Lofoten a week or so ago in a sailing mag and I'm hooked now. Back cruising next year and in need of first passage, that place has to be the first stop. After Shetlands on the way anyway! Neighbor in the marina spent time there and he raved about the place as well. After reading some Roger Tailor the urge to get the bows into the arctic circle is very strong.

Re: Sunsets or best pictures
Sounds like a good plan! but be aware! once you go that route there is now way back: I call it selling the soul to the Arctic. I've been sailing up north for 17 years now and I'm still looking for a refund, still no luck...

Re: Sunsets or Best Pictures
There is something about the Far North, Connie and I spent a few years in the Aleutian Islands, not all at the same time but serveral times with about 1 1/2 yrs at a time LOL !! nowhere we have cruised has given us anymore pleasure! The remote secluded solitary anchorages, the beauty is never ending!! I wish we had had the photo stuff thats avaible today !! our slide film from the 70s and 80s were totaly destroyed form being left in the sun ! "My fault !" We plan to go one more time when we find our new boat !!

I totally agree, at first it looks just like ice, ice, ice and more ice. A cold trip to get there and the heather must burn non-stop. But it is definetly worth it. I found it so much more rewarding than the Med or the Caribe... But who am I?
