Re: Sailing Sunglasses

just buy skiing goggles, you can buy 2 and double the lens for darker shades. I also fit a prescription lens insert inside. skiing goggles are good because they fully enclose and prevent heavy wind from coming in, protecting you from dry eyes

Re: Sailing Sunglasses

I love my Maui Jim Rose tinted polarized prescription wraparounds. Got like 4 pairs. I wear a strap.

Re: Sailing Sunglasses

Likewise Maui Jim wraparound polarized prescription (trifocal) but darker colour. I gave up on cheap sunglasses about 40 years ago. I'd get headaches after long drives and was always losing them. Started wearing quality sunglasses, no more headaches and no more losing them ... something about protecting the investment !! The prescription glasses started about 25 years ago.

Re: Sailing Sunglasses

Am I along in hating polarized lenses due to the interference with all the electronic displays we use nowadays?

If you sail in tropical waters, polarized lenses are simply a requirement. Being able to see into the water supersedes any concern with viewing electronics. Just lift them up when you need to look at an instrument. Problem solved. If you do not sail in tropical waters, there is nothing to see below the surface anyway, skip the polarized lenses.

Depends on the display and glasses direction of polarization. I have found Maui Jim’s work pretty well with most displays, that said. I’d rather see and avoid a coral Bomby than read a display.
Most of my displays are off a iPad Air 2 on a glare coated screen shared from a RPI running opencpn or a kindle paper white e reader data display modified low power no glare screen anyway though. Most marine manufacturers just use the cheapest screens they can find for their displays it seems.

As a bow guy and general SHTF attendant I don't wear anything that's not Z87 rated anymore

Re: Sailing Sunglasses

Had 3 pairs of SeaSpecs for years. Dark, medium, and clear. Clear might sound daft, but for windy wintry days I really like them. I ending up using the clear ones for night-time cycling.

But my Serengetis Dantes are the best I've ever had. Optical glass lenses, polarized, and photochromatic. The 555nm slight green tint is wonderful. I don't use them for sailing because the safety is questionable, having glass lenses.

Re: Sailing Sunglasses

I destroy sunglasses, so the best ones I have found are from the fishing department in Walmart. I usually get a couple of pair for $10 each. Wraparound, dark, polarized, stay on my head, and have little holes for tieing them on with fishing line that never breaks. If all goes well I get a year or two out of a pair and then get new ones.

Re: Sailing Sunglasses

Funny thing, when someone sets up an account on a forum just to re-open an ancient thread and plug a product, I keep that company name in mind to be sure I never buy from them. Maybe it's just me.
