List of one and two person board games

Anyone have any experience with games made for one (or sometimes two) people? I just read this article and thought people might be interested, or familiar with some

Re: List of one and two person board games

There's thousands available for smartphones/phones tablets.

There are genres to suit everyone, but the ones that appeal to me may not appeal to you. Some people love semi-random item destruction requiring good reflexes (modern day equuivalents of space invaders, pacman etc) others prefer more cerebral pursuits such as Chess, Go, Sudoku etc.

Much more convenient on a boat than physical board games.

Re: List of one and two person board games

I own a copy of Friday from Rio Grande Games. It's a fun solo game. Not too big of a box either. Probably about 7" by 7". I can check and give an update. There is also a print out version of it available online that could take up less space and weight since it would be on printer paper. Tiny Epic Games by Gamelyn are very small table top games that are built to not take up too much room, are well made, and pretty entertaining. They even make Ultra Tiny Epic Games that are a full table top game (solo or multiplayer) that are the size of a deck of cards. I have one of those as well and I enjoy it. Probably 4 oz or so in weight.

I really like the tabletop puzzle game Tangoes, which is much more fun 2-player than single in my opinion. It can be played alone or even more than two if you have two or more game sets. Each set has pieces for two players but can be scaled up for multiplayer with more sets.

Unfortunately my wife won't play it with me any more since I always beat her and she used to think she was really good at it before she met me.

I remember that game from when I was a kid. Not sure if it was that brand or not but I remember those puzzles. Once you run out of cards you can make your own and challenge others.

Re: List of one and two person board games

Many board games have a "solo" mode, but I tend to find plahing board games solo unchallenging and unfullfilling.

Board games are great way to spend time with friends, but playing solo, or even as a couple I am not as excited by them.

YMMV.

But if you do want to give it a shot, here are some of the games I have played as a couple. All are great games, and all play well with two players:

7 Wonders Duel, Spirit Island, Brass, Castles of Burgundy, Pandemic, Suburbia, Concordia and Terraforming Mars.

Brass btw. is a fantastic game, and the new edition is gorgeous.

From someone who was actually dumb enough to do it during their first year afloat:
Don't waste storage space on Jenga, it's not a good game for playing whilst at anchor.

Re: List of one and two person board games

We have too many board games

Latest favourites in small packages include:

Bananagrams - a word game, better than scrabble

Spot it - super fun and super simple. Kids love it.

Monopoly Deal - quick card version of monopoly - more fun than the original.

Code Names - good in teams too and tests how well you know each other.

It's a faster-paced gameplay that way.

Trionimoes (three sided pieces, must be orientated to match numbers, more subtle than expected. Great for adults or children.
Scrabble - of course!
Rummikub - strategic reorganisation of tiles to make runs and sets of numbers. One of our favourites.

Blockhead while anchored or under way can be quite a fun challenge. Fun with friends for sundowners too.

Bananagrams

Mexican train Dominos is really cut throat with two people.

Shut The Box. Mindless drinking game.
