I remember in the old beetles when they were always black.

One of the new classics of Mercedes. Meanwhile a collectors item here. There are some left, but not that many.

Yes, I think a lot of the 280's ended up over here. Seems to be more 230 and 250's in Europe. I always liked the Pagodas.

W113s (230/250/280SLs) are not at all uncommon here. I really like those cars - and I might one day trade out my 190SL for one with a/c and a stick (a 5 speed would REALLY tempt me!).

I drove a VW Polo with a 3 cyl. diesal from Nuremburg Germany to Amsterdam once or twice and it cost 150 dollars to fill her up.When she was on the Autobahn she would go 110 mile an hour up or down hill but no faster...had to get out of the left lanes after realizing that 110 wasnt that fast ..I think some of those BMWs and others were going at least 150 or more...would see there headlights on the mnts.in my rear view and would move over and then a few moments later they would zoom bye...I here down under they have fords with 300 straight 6 cyl. that are putting out 600 hp...Hot rods should not have 4 doors though..try telling that to an Aussie....DVC

Re: Any Classic Car Enthusiasts on Board ?
Down here they think that racing cars MUST have four doors, anything else is elitist rubbish. The V8 supercar circuit, the biggest in Australia, is known as "Taxi racing".

Turn 8? ...You must mean 9...right? 8 is flat for most things "amateur".

Re: Any Classic Car Enthusiasts on Board ?
Not a classic, but it takes care of nearly everything I run into on my local mountain "twisties"... I've always had fascination with small engines...so I created a personal rule that lets me out of the big boys V8/V10/V12 game. My rule? ...Nothing more than 4 cylinders. And my favorite quote supporting same; "If you make more horse power a car will go faster in a straight line. If you make it lighter, it will go faster EVERYWHERE" ....Colin Chapman - Lotus
All that being said here's a pic of my fun little ride that fits Colin's quote and my "rule"...and still gets close to 30 MPG! 0-60 in 4 flat. Enough for this ol' geezer! LOL! BTW, 1850 Lbs! "It's a matter of ratios!"

Re: Any Classic Car Enthusiasts on Board ?
I just looked up my AMG's weight 4220 lbs LOL
I learnt a while back that I should not try too hard on the twisty stuff. So I'm happy to have a car I can take to the Swiss Alps this summer and just enjoy the wind over my scalp and the sound of the V8 bouncing of the mountainsides
