How many sailboats get a big hole in the hull by a container every year?

Exactly 32 ....Approx. 48 boats are holed by containers...Some figures put it at 6 boats being holed every year by containers, others 16 and counting......smartasses will tell you very few boats are holed each year by containers...

Usually, just the one that I would be on.

We all have to work together to get me out onto the oceans so, being the disaster magnet that I am, you will be able to avoid these types of things.

I'm setting up a website where you can donate to your hearts content called," Support me to Save yourself." (Note: not affiliated with any political party, they have enough of their own scams going. )

Somebody has to take the hits for the team.

Re: ALL IS LOST: The Movie

I just saw a commercial for All is lost coming to theaters October 25th!!! I guess this means I dont have to drag my wife 96 miles to go see it! Although I did make her promise that after we see it that she can't let it effect her decision about us moving to the ocean. Here's hoping

Re: ALL IS LOST: The Movie

Opens in Toronto the day we leave to go back to the boat in South Africa. Hope it is on in Cape Town. Don't know where they filled this. We did not see Redford or the boat anywhere in the Indian Ocean last year.

Does anyone have confirmed stats about boats hitting containers? We have not met anyone who has even seen one.

Re: ALL IS LOST: The Movie

Apparently the movie will be opening in NY and LA on 18th October, and nationwide on 25th October...

Re: ALL IS LOST: The Movie

They filmed Jaws, and everyone was afraid of sharks for a while. Then they filmed The Perfect Storm, and everyone started watching the weather a little more closely. Now, we'll have a generation of sailors who will be watching for what's out in front of them.

Good.

Well worth seeing even just for the cinematography.

Question. What would a mid ocean large ship most likely respond to, I.e. stop for life raft?

AIS transponder or radar return?

I have been counting the days and here's the 25th, yet I can't find it playing anywhere in southern Ontario. When does it open in Toronto? I'm willing to drive almost anywhere!

Re: ALL IS LOST: The Movie

Saw it tonight.
Gotta agree with this reviewer:
All is Lost, Robert Redford as Solo Sailor – a Review | Old Salt Blog – a virtual port of call for all those who love the sea
Amazed at the continually poor judgment of the sailor, and at the many technical flaws.
Wish I'd waited for Netflix.

Re: ALL IS LOST: The Movie

Great flick and pretty darn authentic I thought.
I'd like to know the make and model of the boat he was sailing. Anyone?
