year around liveaboard marinas in nova scotia and new brunswick

Our sailboat is in Florida and we are going to sail it up to either New Brunswick or Novia Scotia this summer. We are planning on living on it there so need to find a good all seasons marina. Appreciate any ideas.

Re: year around liveaboard marinas in nova scotia and new brunswick

halifax and bedford area offer yearround access. keep in mind summer is pretty much over and last time i was in halifax was october 1999 and there was a blizzard which dumped 6 inches of snow. this was great for us deer hunters but i would think cold mess for sailors still residing on a boat. it is canada and it gets cold and stays cold till may/june. frost is not uncommon in september but is the norm during the night. most sailors are heading to florida via erie canal and ICW avoiding the gales of october/november on the north atlantic.

No problem. have canadian relatives who own boats, should mention with the recent HST tax and duty on some boats{french made for example} you can be setting yourself up for a tax hit depending on whether your seacraft is allready canada registered. big scam lately is keep boats registered USA and out of canada mpre than 6 months of calander year to avoid such luxury taxes.marina fees are generally cheaper stateside anyways as well as storage "on the hard". knew a guy years ago who lost his USA registered RV for leaving it in storage in canada. got caught with his pants down and couldnt afford the tax/duty bill.

My wife is from NB.... Every time I've been there around Sept, EVERY boat is getting hauled! In February the salt water ice is 6' thick in Pointe Du Chenne.... You REALLY want to try and live aboard there through winter?

So, just to understand this correctly, if I buy a US boat and register and moor it in the US I can bring it into Canada for up to 6 months per year but avoid paying the taxes on it?
