I sometimes travel with a banjo, but it sounds like you need the heavy stuff.

It's pretty traditional to pipe the sun down, so it's probably even better to use them to welcome the sun to a new day.

Now I love this idea. What a great time in my life to learn to play the bagpipes out in the cockpit. Legend.

Why would putting a metal dinghy in place to protect your own boat from damage cause you problems? I'd sure slide my inflatable dinghy in for protection in the OP's situation... what's different about the metal one? Sure the metal one may cause more damage to the other boat but it's what he's got. I've always taken the pragmatic choice and moved ... but doesn't sound like a safe choice for the OP.

You worried a moderator would impose post sanctions on your account if you did?

@OP
Use the metal dinghy and if you're worried about damaging your neighbors boat attach some yacht fenders, be creative.

I would but all kidding aside the best thing to do is to walk away. I speak from experience. Confrontation, in this type of case, always ends badly.

I assure you that car would not be blocking my driveway for very long. It would get moved one way or the other.

Hmmm, around here a car blocking a driveway is violating a bylaw, signs or no signs. A call to the police will get it towed.

Re: What to do about this fool anchoring too close?

There are rules that are written for all to see and abide by. It’s annoying when people break these rules but they usually get punished.

Then there are the unwritten rules that are so simple and obvious that we generally are well versed in them as young children. They are so self evident that they don’t need to be listed.

It’s annoying when written rules are broken, but it’s infuriating when the unwritten rules are broken. I don’t believe they’re broken out of ignorance. I think unwritten rules are broken by people who are casually indifferent to consequences others suffer by their actions. Are these people situationally unaware, yes they are, but really aren’t they just a$& holes. And who wants to be around an a$&hole.

Do a hip tie and use the dingy to move away from the idiot. Worst case find a local towing company and have them help move you.

I'm guessing the guy is probably judgement proof (he has no assets and they are unlikely to lock him up), so the old saying, "don't wrestle with a pig, you both get muddy and the pig enjoys is".

Fender your starboard quarter to protect your boat. if feeling particularly spiteful, put a plank outside it, preferrably an old builders plank with old rusty nails stuck in it that just happen to be pointing outwards. Next time he hits you, HIS boat gets damaged. He might get the message then, or alternately just a fendered plank but then drop you spare anchor over it, strategically placed so that it will be the first item to come in contact with his boat.(can also be quickly removed after contact, so you can innocently say "oh, did you damage your boat when it hit mine?"

Re: What to do about this fool anchoring too close?

I would suspect if a harbor master exists, your complaints and first occupancy would be obviously taken into discussion.
Your vessel being clean and properly rigged would make you operational over the perception of a derelict mast less vessel.
The rest is really in above and below discussions.
Above- put out fenders, protect yourself during this high water event.
Then spread seagull bait all over his deck and rig.....

It's easy-- when you see him on his boat ( especially if he has a guest aboard), just walk around on your boat stark bare naked-- especially effective if you relieve yourself over the side.

There is really only 1 thing you can do if you like how close other anchored boats are to you:

MOVE

Every else is just words and bravo
