Is Guernsey ex-Vat?

I am purchasing a new catamaran in France. I am not an EU citizen or EU resident. I have 60 days to export the vessel from the Schengen Area in order to avoid Vat tax on the purchase price.

I know I can take the vessel to Gibraltar to avoid the Vat tax, but do the Channel Islands also qualify (Jersey & Guernsey)?

My understanding is the boat can stay up to 18 mos before vat becomes due.

Schengen has nothing to do with VAT, Schengen is about people not goods.
