Southampton to Guernsey

Hello all,

We're about to sail from Southhampton to Guernsey (next Thursday) and was wondering if anyone had any advice.

Any tips, ideas for pilot guides we should be using, etc, would be most welcomed. I'm trying to gather as much info as possible to include in our passage plan.

the shell pilot guide is quite good

try to arrive on a rising tide,a lot of real estate out there at low water.

cheap fuel,so bring extra jerry cans if you want to stock up.

some of the harbours have tidal sills,so tidal planning is a must

bring your gold card,not that cheap ashore

watch out for a scruffy bloke with a pet goat if you get to jersey... his name is david and posts here a fair bit

That was a good read, I still can't find the main pilot as an ebook though which is a shame.

Anyone else done this trip? From what I have read sounds like the following is roughly the go (very simplified of course).

1. Come out of the Solent and head West down the coast for a while, tides, etc have to be in your favour.

2. Head down from the coast, crossing at a right angle to the TSS just above the channel islands, then down the East coast of Guernsey (keeping at least 4 miles off shore to avoid rocks).

3. Follow the Little Russel (198degreesT) track down then switch over to the Castle Breakwater (220degreesT) and head into St Peters Port.

4. A lot of care has to be taken with tidal gates else we'll shoot right past.

I know this is a very simple overview but is that a good first pass I have to work up or would you do something very different?
