Depends on whether he sanctioned throwing the crew member.

I don't recall the letter of the ISAF rules but generally you have to have all "equipment" and crew that you started with. And, even if the boat becalmed next to you asks for a beer, you're not allowed to throw one over. So depending on how strict the RC wants to be...keep it on the boat to be sure. The guy on the next boat just might be Dennis Conner, and he's not the only one who knows how to use the rulebook as a weapon.
Your crew threw out lunch, now your boat is 8oz. lighter. Still sound like something a racer wouldn't care about?
|
a. food is not equipment, it is stores. Clearly you don't finish with all of the drinking water you started with.
b. The beer can was mot discharged, it was transferred.
c. Unless there is a minimum weight total weight requirement, NA.
But they can't have my beer, non-the-less.

The rule requires that trash be thrown overboard "intentionally." I don't think barfing over the meets either the 'trash' requirement or the 'intentionally' requirement.
And yes the RRS is more restrictive than Marpol is. But that's intentional, and intended. Too many boats were tossing things overboard during races and giving racers a bad name.

Why is it legal to chop up a fish and throw it overboard as "chum" but not legal to throw part of it overboard if you have cooked it and eaten the rest of it?
And of course, if you eat the fish or sandwich and get sick and barf overboard, is that a violation of the dumping rules?

Depends on whether their trousers qualify as an inadvertent pump-out, doesn't it?

No food waste which is not comminuted or ground allowed less than 3 miles from shore. 1/2 sandwich or apple core is neither of those.
In the OP I offered it as a violation of the USCG - 3 mile law because I believe most races in the US do occur within 3 miles of the shore but I guess I could have extended that to the 12 mile law as well for discussion purposes.

Maybe fish guts aren't considered trash since you are returning them to from wince they came (sans a few pieces) as opposed to tossing something over the side that originated on land?

The thread drifted far offshore. I should have been more clear that food can be tossed in certain regions (12 miles offshore).
The chart adds some "legal" basis to the discussion.

Now that is funny. "Honestly Johnny Law...when he went to vomit I could still see pieces of undigested bread in the water. Give him a dq ". He he.

If you cannot toss a sandwich then you probably can't use bait to fish either. Make darn sure your tress don't drop leaves in the water either. Do you pee from the rail? If you get caught, just what do they remove from you?

Is the half eaten sandwitch 'pollution' if you flush it down the toilet and macerate it?
Afterall, if you eat it first, then poop it, it's fine.

If you eat it and then poop it into a head (or even a bucket) , it becomes "raw sewage" and cannot be pumped overboard within three miles of shore (more in some places).
If you poop directly into the water, that's not covered by the rules.
