Does anyone else have this problem?

I buy a brand-new set of tools and within days one of the set goes missing. Do you think I can find it? It eventually turns up but in its' own time

Two years ago I bought a quality center-punch. I used it for a couple of months and then it went walkabout. I searched high and low for it but it was gone. Then yesterday morning there it was - on the bench. Where on earth had it been in the last two years?

What, you don't keep spare 8, 10 & 13mm sockets? I'm sure there's at least half a dozen 10 and 8's sprinkled somewhere on my boat.

At home it is the shed fairies; on the boat it is the boat fairies.

As anyone who has studied fairies knows, they are mostly evil buggers and do nasty stuff just for the fun of it; they rarely do any good.

10 mm seems to be the most common lost one here,

That's funny, Brian, but on our boat it is 13 mm that is crucial...

Do they have a model for us?

I usually find buying the tool you lost helps it turn up.
Reefmagnet for sure, I have a 12 year old boy who forgets tools are boomerangs and just drops them when he has finished using them.

Actually, that's true. I've re-purchased many a tool that vanished only to have it turn up shortly afterwards. I reckon I've got half a dozen each of long nose pliers and #2 phillips drivers in my tool cabinet, although I bet the next time I'm home and I go to use one, they'll all be hiding!



Kids only get worse as they get older, I'm sure. My lad's just turned 30 and the last time he borrowed tools to fix his car half the SAE spanners I've had since I was 18 vanished. Grrrr....

My dad used to give us a real verbal whalloping if we borrowed tools and didn't put them back where they belonged. Hence, I was well-trained as a child and now I do the same with our Shop tools and /or when borrowing tools from our mechanics.

I dunno, though, Coopec. You may have something there. As we all know, boats are magical creatures... perhaps more magical than we realize!

My boat consumed a ratchet and socket last winter. There are only so many places they can be. I'm aggravated every time I open the case and see the empty slots.

I am glad to know I am not the only person with this dilemma.

My rule of thumb now is to buy 2 of every tool I might possibly need; and 4 of the tools I definitely need.

Bought a brand new cordless soldering iron when I got my first boat and launched it, to do some wiring work through the canals. Never saw it again after that first weekend.

I'm missing a groco strainer spanner wrench that I've torn the boat apart looking for it. The best way to make it reappear is to order a new one for $30.
