My dad used to give us a real verbal whalloping if we borrowed tools and didn't put them back where they belonged. Hence, I was well-trained as a child and now I do the same with our Shop tools and /or when borrowing tools from our mechanics.

I dunno, though, Coopec. You may have something there. As we all know, boats are magical creatures... perhaps more magical than we realize!

mechanics soon learn not to lend out tools, as you never get them back. We used to get **** from the drivers on my dads farm when we took hammers or pins from toolboxs on their tractors. I now understand why they were pissed.
