Wood with a History

I'm currently looking for material (and inspiration if anyone has any photos of cool examples) for a new helms seat. A source has turned up in my local area that was part of a US warship that fought in WWII, being sunk and re-floated to serve with honor.

Is that weird? Part of me says that it would be awesome to have such history on the boat, but the fact that is was on a boat that sunk seems a little odd.

Perhaps theres a re-appropriation ceremony to get things back on track?

Personally I prefer something a bit more comfortable to sit on than a wooden plank. Last one I made was sewn PVC material over a high density foam pad.

I would have considered making a table for use in the cockpit a rather more appropriate use for such material - preferably with an inlaid brass plaque attributing the material.
