Is that really why they put them on the outside of the hull? I suppose i could put it further towards the bow so no salt water gets in if the rails get burried under water.
You're just as likely to bury the bow in a big sea so I don't think that would be a good idea. I don't know if anyone makes a snorkel valve that you could fit?

Re: Water air vent location

You can certainly do it. Ours are vented into the forward head. Just make sure that they have somewhere to drain to. If the boat is heeled at the dock due to wind ours at lease will leak while the tanks are being filled, also, when I forget I'm filling the tank and don't shut off the water. Any water that comes out the vents is pumped over by the shower sump.

Re: Water air vent location

Our boat’s water tank vents into the fore peak just below deck level, then to a hose directed to the bilge.

Much thanks. Yeah I agree. I've decided I'm going to put the water vents inside. It seems from all the replies its pretty common to do. The midships tank will loop up as high as possible and drain to midships bilge. The bow tank will loop up even higher in a locker and drain to the forward bilge.

Now when you are at a dock filling your tanks the poor thirsty manatees don’t get ANY clean fresh water from your overflow ? Not to mention brushing their teeth after pizza. No wonder it’s BAD orca.
They once considered you a friend of the manatees.
You could install a three way valve and open it up a bit when you are in Florida .

PS. Just kidding. It’s an inside joke.

When you overfill your water tank, water comes out of the vent fitting. Do you want this water inside or outside of the boat?

I want the overflow in my bilge. It is a free fresh water rinse. I fill my tanks until the bilge pump comes on.

Re: Water air vent location

I posted earlier that our water tanks vented into the sink. It is beyond me why all boats aren't designed like that
