Tayana Hull Anode "Shoes"

I am trying to source the (for lack of a better term) "shoe" that are often found under the ZHC-2 (sometimes called "Taiwan plate") hull anodes found on Tayana sailboats. These are black, rubber shoes (gaskets?) that fit around the base of the anode, between the anode and the hull. It's purpose is to keep the anode off of the hull. I can't find a pic of the show but this is the anode to which I'm referring:

Re: Tayana Hull Anode "Shoes"

We use similar ZHC-5s, but have never seen any shoes (rubber stand offs?) sold with them. Our anode plate is bolted to metal so the whole side comes in contact. Attached in this fashion, they last ~2 yrs on our boat.

What would be the reason for the "shoes"?

They may be called “backing pads” (although what I’m looking for actually fits snugly around the anode base and not simply under it.) I believe they keep the anode from making direct contact with the hull.

Re: Tayana Hull Anode "Shoes"

Had to look it up what anode backing pads were used for. It makes sense that they protect the bolt area from eroding faster than the outside area to make them last longer.

Didn't see any of them wrap around though, just under them.

Never heard of them. I just bolt the zinc to the hull making sure they touch the metal tab to make a connection.

Yeah, most Tayanas (and other boats with hull-recessed ZHC-2s) do not have them installed. But a certain number do and I have a new client with a Tayana 48 that came out of the yard last year without them. He want's me to source replacements.

@fstbttms

on my moody I have a tear drop and I ended up using another nut and washer against the hull to get the standoff distance. so it wasn't right up against the hull.
