stuck hatches

My new (for me) boat has a few hatches that are be stuck closed. I figure it is probably just due to not having been opened for a while and the seal is now stuck, but I don't want to try to force them open. I figure it would be best to spray some oil/silicone type of lube around and them and then gently pull on the hatch to work it loose. Anyone have a suggestion for the spray or any other words of wisdom?

It sort of depends on the hatch type. Can you post a picture of it? If we knew what it was it might help.

so I'm interested in the responses, too. My Lewmar will open about 3/4", so the seal is not stuck, but will not open any further. Seems to be binding, jammed or stuck at the hinge and I don't want to force it with more leverage potentially creating a much bigger problem. Ignoring it has not helped, so any ideas short or replacing it?

I found that silicon spray on the hinges of my old hatches worked a treat.

It is necessary to make sure that it does not get on the paintwork at all.

Just a little followed by gentle movement could do the trick.

Try to avoid using too much as you can lose the friction lock in the hinge.
