Shaping Rub Rail Ends?

Well, I'm already beginning the next project before finishing the stern rail project.

Beausoleil has teak rub rails the length of the hull, and I'd like to add stainless rub rail to protect the teak. How easy is it to grind and hammer the squared cut end of a piece of hollow-back rail to a rounded point like the shaped pointed ends you can buy commercially? The for the grinding, I'll just use my bench grinder.

But what about hammering the end point so it will be concave like the factory stamped version. Or should I just bite the bullet and buy the end pieces?

well it depends on your skills and tools....if you have ever done sheet metal work....have the proper T dollys, phenolic hammers and molding edge rolling jigs...it will be easy....(look at the eastwood company)...if not buy the new ones
