Replace sea cock?

Hi guys, first post here.

I'm a proud new owner of a Van De Statd Pion 30. I've been excitedly preparing her to be splashed soon.

One thing I noticed was the through hull valve for the blackwater outlet was a little stiff. I pulled it out and it was full of mud (maybe some other things there too )

Once it was out I thought I'd look into replacing it and I found that the type of valve they used is for (looks like heavy) industrial purpose and not specifically marine.

I'm just wondering if it would be best to replace it with a specific marine valve? Looks like I would have to replace the through hull fitting also as the thread doesnt match anything on the marine market...

It's in fine condition and turning nicely now that I've cleaned it, and corrosion isn't an issue as it is plastic.

Here is a link to what is in the boat now:

Thanks!

Re: Replace sea cock?

Hi, Budini,
Congratulations on your new boat!
Strength is the issue with the PVC valve. I recommend reading this article on thru-hulls and seacocks.

Great info there.. Looks like ill be replacing all the through hulls on my boat with proper seacocks. Definitely looks like the sort of thing you want to do correctly..

Cheers
