Refit and boat work recommendations on West Florida coast?

Does anyone have any recommendations of marinas or boatyards on the west coast of Florida (preferably Tampa area), that can work on a 44ft cat, with Volvo Penta engines?

The engines need a lot of maintenance, new batteries and electrical work, and bottom sand/paint.

I figured someone like Just Cats would be great, but probably have a long waitlist and are on the opposite coast.

Worth an inquiry call to Embree Marine, St. Petersburg.

Thank you. Just shot them an email.

Is it common to send the surveyor's recommendations list and ask for an estimate of it all?

Certainly can’t hurt to try that route.

No go on Embre Marine, they said their lift is only 20ft wide. I'll keep searching around.

Re: Refit and boat work recommendations on West Florida coast?

A friend of mine once said, "There's no such thing as an honest boatyard, but some are better than others." I get the feeling that you might not be that experienced and having a yard do everything can lead to some really large bills with questionable work. I have a friend who is a really upstanding guy and does quality work. When I met him he was refitting a catamaran after a lightning strike. He does engine work, electrical, watermaker installs, and rigging. He was in St. Pete a week ago doing a watermaker install and your post made me think of him.

Of course this is just a recommendation from some stranger on the internet. I'm sure he can give you some references.

You're spot on with everything. I'll shoot him an email tonight and see how it goes.

What's the best method for getting a quote on some of the work? or do people typically just hire someone and hope for the best? I thought sending the survey recommendations sheet over would be a good idea, but it's like 40 items, and I mainly wanted a professional for the engine/electrical, that I can hopefully watch do, to learn myself.

Thank you again.

Tarpon Springs has several yards that can pull a cat, check around up there.
