Paint Compatibility-Mixing Antifouling paint

I have always mixed black and blue antifouling paint to get dark blue. It has worked well.

Now there is a shortage of blue antifouling paint here in Mexico.

I am going to use PCA Gold Premium Ablative Antifouling Paint from West marine. I can get black but not blue. I have a gallon of blue ABC3.

Can I mix the ABC3 with PCA Gold?

Re: Paint Compatibility-Mixing Antifouling paint

Only looked at if both were solvent based paints so they would be miscible. They are so they should be fine to mix.

That said, would try a very small batch (a few mLs) at a 50:50 (or whatever approx. volumes you have of each to form the ratio) to see if anything unexpected happens (forms a weird precipitate, etc.).

No idea what the performance will be for such a mix, but if that is what you have it's worth the test. What color did you get this time!!??

Well, it would probably work (mixing the two brands) but I think I'll use the Comex ABC3 blue that I have and scrounge up some Comex ABC3 black so I am not taking a risk. It'll cost me a bit more but that's what I have done in the past.

Some paint has copper or zinc. Mix the two together for a fun time.

Re: Paint Compatibility-Mixing Antifouling paint

Many paints have already been combining copper and zinc compounds for their biocide cocktail, not a big deal.

Neither of the products mentioned by the OP contains any zinc.
