Bruce anchor repairs

Hi, I have an old original pattern 30lb Bruce anchor.
The hole thru the shank for attaching the rode shackle is worn and a bit corroded.
Would anybody know whether it is OK to wrap a length of say 10mm round bar around the nose of the shank and weld it in place.
Is the shank cast iron or forged and likely to crack along the weld? Many thanks. K.

Re: Bruce anchor repairs

Hmm, do you really want to be penny pinching with a major safety item? The consequences if it failed one night are?

Sorry but in this instance I would put it in the garden as an ornament and buy another anchor preferably one of the new generation types.

Pete

Re: Bruce anchor repairs

Bruce anchors are cast and can't be repaired.

Re: Bruce anchor repairs

I belive Bruce anchors were cast steel (not iron).
“... Most cast steels are similar to low-carbon or medium-carbon rolled steels in composition, and can be welded with ease...”
