Re: Black/toilet waste pump-out pump

I have the Jabsco pump per sailmonkey which is simple and you can replace the rubber parts when needed. I bought it through Defender for $200+ and it is well worth it not to have to have clogged sewage lines. Spend the money and you will be much happier over the long term.

We use a Johnson SPX pump. It is a diaphragm pump and can run dry. No issues after 2 years.

I've always planned to flush the system with sea water quite often. Maybe I am wrong but I hope that would stop smell from permeating through the plumbing?

I can't get the tank above the waterline so that was not a consideration

Thirty gallon holding tank WOW!

I didn't think of a manual pump. A whale Gusher would make short work of emptying a holding tank. I have an unused Henderson Mk 5 in my workshop which can shift 23 g/m and I think it would be a lot less troublesome than a 24V pump.

Thanks.

Coopec43, it takes me just about 50 strokes to empty my holding tank with the Whale Gusher Titan manual pump.

When you said you had a 30 (US) gallon holding tank I was impressed. I've just tested mine as I was really guessing until now but now find mine is 32 (US) gallons!

I suppose they are never big enough. This link should make interesting reading.

Black/toilet waste pump-out pump

30 gallons is good for two people for 3-4 days, maybe 5, with the VacuFlush and using plenty of water for flushing. Four people on board seem to fill it up more than twice as fast.

You are not eating your dinner are you?

I've just been reading that some people don't flush the toilet paper into the holding tank as it takes room. They have a special bin in the toilet (with an air-tight lid) for used toilet paper!! I wonder what they empty that into?

Maybe a composting toilet is the way to go?

Re: Black/toilet waste pump-out pump

Options are good. Head directly overboard or to holding tank. Holding tank to pump-out or overboard.
