Anyone able to identify these?

So I have ten odd Portals on my boat and the seals have seen some better days and need replacing.

Anybody able to tell me the brand of these ones?

Bonus points if anyone can link me to a place that sells the seals in Australia?

I did scrape away all the corrosion etc and cleaned them up, just can't figure it.

As always, thanks in advance

Re: Anyone able to identify these?

Not seeing any pictures but measure the track that the gasket sits in (width) and chances are you need a gasket that size square. So if it’s 5/16” you need 5/16x5/16” gasket like:

Re: Anyone able to identify these?

SBM was an Italian company that made a number of marine hardware items. They came on hard times during the 2008 financial event and never recovered. Don’t know exactly when they closed, but they are closed.

Which leaves you measuring the gasket and finding something at a local rubber supplier, maybe start with Clark Rubber? Or Industrial Seal and Gasket

If you want to take a look at the old catalogs most of the SBM.it website is available on the Wayback Machine.

While they loosely fit the definition of portal what you actually have are portholes. From the French for door but first devised in England. Hence the other term being portlight which allows for light to enter but not a person.

Re: Anyone able to identify these?

Before going through the expense and brain damage of trying to replace the gaskets, if they are only dried out but not damaged, try spraying silicone on one. You'll likely need 3 or 4 applications over a couple of days. It will restore the rubber's supple trait and will seal the portlight.
The previous owner of the boat had gone as far as putting elecrical tape on the gaskets to stem the leaks. I applied the silicone and it stopped ALL the leaking and was still good 14 years later when I sold the boat.
Shot in the dark. Good luck,
Thom

Although the brand is on the label (Italian?), actually it does not matter, and I bet it is not even made anymore.

I replaced the gaskets on mine which look similar to yours (cast aluminum), and which are over 54 years old.
Measure the width, the depth plus a little bit for compression and order from your Australian supplier.
In the US my supplier would be McMaste Carr. The type of rubber you'd be looking for is weather resistant neoprene rubber strips with adheseive back.

Re: Anyone able to identify these?

There are lots of gaskets out there. The D shaped hollow ones are very good.

Re: Anyone able to identify these?

A gasket is a gasket. All you need is some material the right size, or make them from a sheet of material. The port manufacturers don't make their own, they buy them from a supplier.

And then use a multipler for the pricing.
