I built windows and doors at one time in my life. It used to amaze me how many splinters I could pick up in the average day! Fortunately there's always beer to save us from despair.

Bottom panel layed out for scribing. 31'10" long. Shed is 32'

Looks like there's gonna be a lot of climbing UP AND OVER! That's ok, I need the exercise!

Looks like you've started taking the antidotes in advance now. Good idea!

You know what they say about an ounce of prevention!

Still sticking long panels together. This will be my life for a couple more weeks yet!

Re: And So It Begins ... Knottybuoyz' New Project

My grandmother was from the old country and she would take a piece of bread and then bandage it on top of our splinters and leave it overnight. The next day the splinter was gone. I don't how (or even if) this worked but when I have nasty splinters I do that. When I was an apprentice chippy they would say mark it with a crayon and take it out when you get home. Now get back to work.

Re: And So It Begins ... Knottybuoyz' New Project

Spent 4 hrs in the boat shed this morning. Finished up the first bottom panel(s). Yes two parts. I'll join them on the strongback. It'd be just too big to handle otherwise.

I had to clean out the glass that covered the kerfs. A sharp chisel made quick work of that.

Once that was done I laid out the second bottom panel for taping and gluing.

I couldn't pass up a sale at Canadian Tire yesterday so I picked up one of these....

I'm sure it'll have a bazillion uses and come in handy down the road. Besides a tool sale is a tool sale right? I couldn't pass it up as hard as I tried to just walk on by!

All glued up and will be ready to flip tomorrow for more taping and gluing.

Now off to the "In and Out" store for more Guiness!

Unlike Guiness, it took me a while to warm to biscuit joiners but they are real handy. I've seen tests that show the joints having excellent strength.

I had a few mis-cues with it he first few tries. I think I better go read the manual before I mess up any more material.

I did manage to get all the bottom panels taped & glued and stacked up nice and neat. I then started laying out the side panels.

There's 4 pieces to a side. Why have I only got 7? The search led me to the most likely place. Right behind all the neatly stacked bottom panels! So after a half hour of moaning and groaning and huffin' and puffin' I managed to liberate the mislabeled miscreant. It was labeled "Sole" and was with the other pieces for the sole. Go figure, wonder how that happened, blame the apprentice!

My significant other happened in the shed and snapped this......

I think my exact words were "What the frack are you doing?" "Nobody takes my picture darnit!"

I see you need notes on the deck, after a few of those nectars, to tell you where the bow is.

Re: And So It Begins ... Knottybuoyz' New Project

Yeah yeah you're all very funny! I try real hard to limit myself to one brewski at a time!

Today I ran into a lil' situation, totally not unexpected though.

The side panels are 32' 3" long. The shed is only 32'!

I knew this was going to happen and sort of planned for it when I built the barn doors. I've opened them up to give me the room I need to get around the boat (I hope).

It's not pretty but I don't care as long as it keeps the rain out. It was over 90 degs F in the shed today so I have to put some thought into more ventilation!

That's it for today. Going to see Gordon Lightfoot tonight. If he doesn't play "Wreck of the Edmond Fitzgerald" I'm going to ask for my money back!
