ZF SD10 propeller replacement

Hey.
I have a Vetus m3.29 and ZF SD10 installed on a Scanmar 33 boat with a fixed 2-blade propeller of the left hand rotation. In SD10, the transformation ratio of 2.23 is the same in the forward and reverse. Can I use the propeller of the right hand rotation?
How justified is a replacement for a 3-pill folding propeller?

Re: ZF SD10 propeller replacement

I hope I have this correct...so you trying to replace the prop and all you can find is a right hand rotation? And run the trans in reverse to go forward? A folding prop, while very costly, will add between 1/2 kt to 3/4 kt of boat speed when sailing. That is the average that people see.

Re: ZF SD10 propeller replacement

It's possible that the saildrive may be able to operate continuously in either LH or RH mode, but it's also possible that it can't. This is something that should be investigated thoroughly with the manufacturer, ZF.

The reason for this is that there may be oil circulation within the leg that was designed for and depends on a majority of shaft rotation in a specific direction. Frequently the driven gear on the prop shaft also does double duty as an impellor for oil circulation, and running the drive in the " opposite" direction might prevent adequate circulation of the oil within the leg.

Better to check with ZF.

Re: ZF SD10 propeller replacement

Unfortunately, ZF is not responding at all!
Therefore appealed to the community.

The ad says that the SD10 has the same transformation ratio in the forward and reverse rotation. Therefore, it is convenient to use on catamarans.
