YANMAR ANTIFREEZE

I have a 30hp Yanmar and manual states Texaco Longlife Coolant Antifreeze code 7997or7998 ...or Havoline Extended Life Antifreeze code 7994. 1) this manual was written years ago, are these codes still valid? 2) It doesn't say anything about a 50/50 mix. Do I use just straight antifreeze with no water mix? I don't want to make a mistake here, Thanks for all your wisdom, I know nothing about in's and out's of antifreeze.

Re: YANMAR ANTIFREEZE

In my experience, it's very difficult to find the Texaco or Havoline antifreeze specified by Yanmar. As you say, the recommendation is very old. Now there are other brands that will work just as well. Search this forum and BoatDiesel. You'll find a lot of suggestions. Yes, it is a 50/50 mix, assuming you don't get premixed antifreeze.

Re: YANMAR ANTIFREEZE

Current recommendation from Yanmar is their own 50/50 pre-mix YG30R ELC Ultralife Antifreeze/Coolant, check your local source for Yanmar parts.

Re: YANMAR ANTIFREEZE

You dont need Yanmars antifreeze which they wont make anyway. They just buy a big brand coolant & put their label & a 500% markup on it. I never buy Yanmar branded oil or filters as you can get ones with the same specs waay cheaper. Just buy longlife coolant that you can get in any autostore & mix it according to the instructions on the container.
Cant comment on US brands.

Re: YANMAR ANTIFREEZE

My sister-in-law buys chilli sauce in 25 litre bottles for $45 a bottle. She decants it into 250ml bottles, puts her own labels on them and sells them in her store for $15 each. Everybody that buys one of her bottles swears that it’s the best chilli sauce on the market - “That girl really knows how to make decent chilli sauce!!” they say.

Yanmar do exactly the same thing with anti-freeze.
