Yanmar 1gm10 oil filter leaking

Hi guys I have an oil leak coming from the oil filter. It drips once every 10 seconds at 2500rpm. I replaced oil and filter 4 engine hours ago. I made sure I oiled the o ring before spinning on the filter to hand tight but not super tight. Any ideas why its leaking? Wrong filter? Dirt on o ring grove?

did you follow the directions on the filter? Yanmar brand filter?

often happens with non-yanmar filters (ie automotive or non metric thread filters)

The yamnar filter for my 3gm30 requires 1 full turn after making contact - ie very tight - I can't hand tighten that much - I need a wrench to get it that tight.

did you make sure the old O ring came off the block? I've done that, although it usually leaks worse...

hand tight is not enough. get a filter wrench and follow the directions.

Cheers guys heard around that people put them on too tight but maybe not for this engine!

Its not a matter of the engine, its the filter.

You MUST look at the filter for how far to turn it, as the torque has changed over the years for the filter as they have changed.

The earlier ones I had were 3/4 turn after making contact. The new ones I have are 1 full turn once making contact. If you did not use a filter wrench, I doubt it is tight enough.

Tighten by hand only,if your hand isn't strong enough to tighten to stop the leak, try a bit of chassis lube thick grease on the oring, or check for a surface that isn't smooth on the engine.
