Volvo MD2020 Push Rod Guides?

In the process of reassembling a Volvo MD2020D. I dont recall removing push rod guides when tearing it down and none are shown on the parts diagram.

Do they really just float on the tappets with no guide/bushing of any kind?

Looking for a response from someone with hands on MD series experience.

No guides on the 2030 and the D2-55. The pushrods are just sitting in the tappet at the bottom and the rocker arm ball locates them at the rocker arm end. Pretty sure the same applies for the 2020.

Yup, free floating, restrained by the rocker.

If you had the followers out of the engine be careful to get the odd one out in the correct hole, the other 5 are interchangeable but you’ll see the different one in a lineup.

I looked at the follwers and did not see any difference. The parts catalog also only shows them as a single part number.

What is the difference?

The front most cam follower has a reduced diameter at the base to clear the injector pump casting but if you can see no difference in your followers it’s possible that Shibaura did a machining change to the casting rather than have that single odd follower.
