Vetus replacement for Vernalift exhaust muffler
I have a Perkins 4108 engine with a Vernalift exhaust muffler that needs replacing. It is an inline and has 2" inlet/outlet connections. Vetus mufflers are readily available in Canada, but I am unable to find data online giving a replacement Vetus model. Has anybody done a similar replacement?

Re: Vetus replacement for Vernalift exhaust muffler
I had a problem water lift installation. Space available did not work with shapes available. Mechanics dicked around with commercial solutions (Vetus) for 12 years. They never worked right. I will spare you the long story. Last year I got tired of it, drew up my own muffler, had it fabbed in ss, problems SOLVED! The cost was not much more than an off the shelf unit. But it solved all kinds of space issues and we now have a proper installation.
The design is not at all hard, just make sure you have enough volume for the run.
The Vetus connection had over heated and deformed. Yet I never had an overheat in the engine. Kinda scary.

If this
https://www.centekmarine.com/product...ine-10-x-17-5/
If this is your current muffler it is claiming about 2-1/3 gallon capacity.
Vetus is claiming about 3/4 gallon capacity.
If I am reading the spec sheets correctly that is a big difference.

Lose cooling for a even a very short short time and a Vetus is toast.

Re: Vetus replacement for Vernalift exhaust muffler
Vetus now has a version which can take much higher temperatures. It’s the black or white version, the grey ones are PVC. They called heavy duty (HD). Price difference is minimal. https://www.vetus.com/nl/uitlaatsyst...aterlocks.html

Re: Vetus replacement for Vernalift exhaust muffler
Dont fab it in SS better in resin ! Seen too many of those plastic vetus ones melt !

Re: Vetus replacement for Vernalift exhaust muffler
Vetus has a wide range of water locks for use in inboard engined boats from 25 100 feet. The key issues are the volume of water running back from the gooseneck to the water lock on shutdown, the diameter of the mixing elbow and the space available for the water lock, the top of which must be lower than the discharge point of the mixing elbow. If you would like to give m you email address, I'll send you a copy of our training module for wet exhaust systems.

Re: Vetus replacement for Vernalift exhaust muffler
The Vetus I have seen appear to be cheap brown/grey plastic and thin compared with a Vernalift. Just an FYI.
