venting air from fuel lines

recently had a bit of an overhaul on my 4.108 perkins
decided to replace the 40 year old fuel lines as well as I tried to take the line off at the tank pickup the hose spun around quite easily so I decided to tighten the nut on the flaired compression fitting could not go any further
took this fitting apart and ground down the nut to make it shorter on the thread and that solved it I would never have found this defect, and I'm sure it gets overlooked easily since there was no fuel leakage, but air could get in quite easily

Re: venting air from fuel lines

Great feeling, isn't it? You out-smarted that chunk of steel that was bound and determined to sneak an undetectable source of failure on you. Score one for hominid life forms.
