Which model is the filter element? I can't find it in the documentation and the guy at west marine was stymied.

While we are at it, which model is the impeller?

This is for the 3ym30
AFAIK, the fuel filter (and housing) is the same for all GM and YM series and the filter part number 104500-55710. Take this as advice rather than gospel.

EDIT: The early GM rather than the later GMxx series might be different.

The impeller is more difficult as it can vary of the country of sale as Yanmar uses different raw water pumps in different countries.

For the OP, here is some extra reading on the filter wrench subject.

Re: Trouble removing Retention ring fuel filter 3YM30

Obviously I don't know what your fuel system configuration is. But some guys will build a "pre-filter" system, as their primary filtration system, which is bullet proof enough so that the factory filter rarely needs to get touched. Including dual Raycors with a manifold setup, & vacuum gauges. Sometimes with another filter before & after these two, or some variation there on. And locate the system where it's both easy to see the filters, in order to check the bowls for sediment or water. As well as making access for changing them dirt simple.

I learned about the dual filters trick when I was like 17, & ever since, it's totally made sense to me. If at all possible. Particularly when you're in locales where fuel quality may be circumspect. And or, you consider that in heavy weather, sometimes ease of changing filters is a MAJOR safety issue. As in if the diesel dies, you're phuked. So auto/self-priming pumps are a handy addition as well for many boats. Non?

Would that more boat manufacturers built enough space into their boats for such systems, & access to same!
