Re: Simmons Maxim Yanmar installation

How did you get your engine out. I know of a guy that took his out the hatch above the bed in pieces. IE he took off all the auxiliaries then the head and raised it up through the hatch. I spent time on this boat as I bought it but lost it (another story) but I found it hard to get to the fanbelts as they sit towards the stern of the boat and owners hull you climb through the door and have to pass the engine to get there.

As far as I am aware the 3ym and 3gm are pretty similar ? What is your question to see if I can help. I have 3ym,s in my Leopard 40

Re: Simmons Maxim Yanmar installation

I’m about to replace my port side engine and will have to partially dismantle the original 3gm30 to be able to remove it . Yanmar said if I partially dismantle new engine 3ym30 to install it it will effect the warranty.Dont want to have to cut out topside of boat to enable engine installation as there is no hatch on that side and wondering if possible to fit engine any other way .Secondly.if I do cut out topside is it possible to replace that section as I don’t want a hatch on that side as it’s more of a lounging/ sun baking area?

Why not just cut the topside and make a hatch that is flush with deck that you can lounge on..... access is very important and in my opinion if you do the access hatch right will help with resale should you ever sell....

Good luck

I think you need to look under your roof lining to see what is possible. I don’t think it would be difficult to cut out a section and reglass it into place. As far as I remember there is no tread format on the top etc so it should be easy to match again
